Recycled Pringles Can-Cookie Holder

Remember that recipe for the delicous cookies? Well here is an alternative to giving cookies to your friends, families and neighbors on a plate.

I love to recycle containers. There are so many uses for a Pringles container here is just one.

I had a lot of fun making these!

What you need:
-Pringles Can
-Printed paper
-Coordinating solid paper
-2 colors of ribbon (3/8" & 5/8")
-Embellishment (flower, bow, etc.)
-Printed or stamped tag
-Hole punch
-Scizzors & paper cutter
-Adhesive

Clean out your Pringles can. I used the spray dust remover to get the crumbs out and a wet paper towel with a little soap.

Measure your printed paper and solid paper by wrapping it around the can to see where you want to cut it. Mark it & cut it. Then glue it to the can. At the seem where the 2 papers meet glue ribbon (either 3/8" or 5/8").

Glue embellishment and tag close to the ribbon, making sure the paper seem down length of the can is in the back.

Using hole punch, punch 2 holes on top making sure they will be on the sides when the can is facing front. Using 5/8" ribbon insert one end in hole, wait to cut it, and tie a knot on the inside of the can. You may have to tie it twice to make it large enough so it doesn't come out. Now cut the ribbon leaving about 3 inches or slack. This will make it easier to tie the other side.

Now for the final touches. Glue 3/8" ribbon around the edge of the lid. Cut the printed paper in a circle cutter. I have a circle cutter than I use but if you don't you can use the lid as a template. Glue that to the top of the lid.

Tada! Now you have a cute canister for cookies or anyother treat.

I gave this one to a friend for her birthday.

These other 2 I gave to the women I visit teach.
I really like the felt flower on this one. I used a template from Craft Gossip.

I really like the colors of this one. It is very bayberry creek Crafter colors :)
I am not in love with the bow I did and if I did it over I would make it smaller.

** Make sure when you make your cookies you make them the right size to fit in the canister**

Cookie Recipes

These are 2 of my most favorite cookie recipes.
There is a little story behind them. I got the recipe for the Snickers Cookies from the mother of a girl that I taught at my old church. Thank you Marylin! I made them for my husband when we were dating. The best way to a man's heart is through his stomach right? It was around Christmas time and I love to bake during the holidays. Well I gave him a few and he took them home. One of his older sisters came to visit and saw the cookies. He told her how wonderful they were. She made a comment something like this "Who does this girl think she is coming into the family and taking my one talent away?!" (imagine that in the most playful over dramatic voice). I guess I won over my husband but not his sister. I love her and quickly shared the recipe with her. I think we are past the baking rivalry now and like to swap baking tips.

So here are the yummy cookies...

Chocolate Chip Cake Cookies. So easy, quick and yummy. It is a recipe I have memorized.

(recipe card to print)

Chocolate Chip Cake Cookies
Makes about 40 cookies
1 box chocolate cake mix
1/3 cup oil
2 eggs
6 oz. mini chocolate chips

Mix all ingredients with large spoon add chocolate chips last. Using a spoon, scoop dough and roll into ball with hands. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Make sure to leave about 1 1/2 inches between each cookie. Bake cookies at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Snickers Cookies. I took a bite out of one so you can see the snickers inside.

(recipe card to print)

Snicker Cookies
Makes about 60
1 cup butter
1 cup creamy peanut butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
60 miniature (bite-size) Snickers candy bars
white chocolate chips
semi sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 F. Cream butter, peanut butter, sugar and brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients and add to peanut butter mixture. Take 1 tablespoon of dough and flatten into round shape in palm of your hand. Place Snickers bar in center and fold dough around it. Roll in palms of your hand to form a smooth ball with the Snickers bar totally covered with the dough. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes. Remove from cookie sheet and place on a wire rack to cool. While cookies are cooling in a small sandwich bag place 1-2 cups of semi sweet chocolate chips in microwave for 10 sec intervals until chocolate is melted. Drizzle over cookies. Repeat with white chocolate chips.

All you Craft Envy readers can use these cookies to put in the canister I did a tutorial on yesterday. Bayberry creek Crafter readers stay tuned. Saturday I will post the tutorial so you will have a fun way to give these cookies as a gift.

Blog Swap-Craft Envy

I'd like to introduce you all to Vanessa and Nicholette from Craft Envy. I love their blog! They are brilliantly talented and make, do, and craft amazing things.

Hello Bayberry Creek fans! Nicholette and Vanessa here with Craft Envy. We are sisters-in-law who are homemakers sharing a crafting addiction! We love to craft just about anything--especially if we can recycle and repurpose. So be sure to come visit us some time!

For now, we would like to share one of Rachel's fav tutorials from our blog, the Pirate Nightlight! Hope you enjoy!

What you will need:

-Cheap-o night light (one that you can take off the front...mine was Santa) $1
-2 liter soda bottle
-Fabric scraps
-hot glue gun
-permanent marker

1. Cut out a trapezoid type shape from the plastic bottle to use as the shade.

2. Print off a picture to trace onto your shade. I chose a non-threatening, non-creepy, very innocent-looking skull and crossbones.

3. Using some spray adhesive, take your shade outside and spray the front and let set for one minute. Then, place your fabric onto the shade.

4. I also used some strips of fabric to twist and hot glue around the edges to give the shade a more finished look.

4. I cut out a little connector piece to hook onto the actual light and glued it to the shade.

Like this...

then I connected it to a little one dollar nightlight with a removable face.
There ya have it!

Thanks Vanessa and Nicholette for sharing this fantastic idea with my readers!!!

Wooden Block Houses

One night on a trip to Joanne's with my 3 sister-in-laws and mother-in-law. One of my sister-in-laws was talking about these cute block houses that her mother-in-law had at her house. (That is a mouth full of in-laws) She said how cute they were and what great decorations and toys they made. She mentioned having my husband try and help her do something similar. A light bulb went off. I wanted to make them for her birthday which was months away, but thought it would be plenty of time to make them. Well it turns out I was wrong. Here is the final product.

These were the originals. I borrowed them from her mother-in-law so I could recreate them.

What I will tell you about this project is that even though I started them months before her birthday, she didn't get them until months later. It was one of the toughest projects I have taken on. With the help of my husband and some genius suggestions from his dad we finished them. The labor of love was so worth it though!

To start us off meet Tara and her blog Stampalicious. It is full of great paper crafting ideas. She is a demonstrator for Stampin Up! and does custom vinyl. She has so many great ideas on her blog for cards and other paper crafts. You may contact her to order Stampin Up! products at fabfullmers@yahoo.com.

Tara is giving away 2 of the her Stampin Up! products and
a vinyl welcome sign that she designed.

The first is a stamp set of 6. It is great for many occasions.

You'll love using this Designer Series paper in a 6"x6" size.

The icing on the cake in my opinion is a Welcome vinyl sign. It is very similar
to this one photographed but is chocolate brown and says "to our home" under
"Welcome". This would look fabulous on any front door or entry way.

If you are interested in having your own vinyl email her she will be happy to quote you a price. She has some vinyl creations on her blog.

Recycled Soup Can Gift Box

Here is an idea for gift wrap. You can decorate it for any occasion;
Birthday, Christmas, Mother's or Father's day, or any other gift giving day.

You start with a can of soup with a easy open lid. Before you open it to eat it you will want to get the right can opener. You don't want to open it with the flip top because that is how the recipient of the gift will open it. You will need a "smooth edge" or "no sharp edge" can opener. They come in all shapes and sizes, automatic ones, or just the hand held. Open the top or bottom depending on the can. It is best to do the bottom but sometimes the can opener won't fit. Empty your soup can and enjoy your soup, then clean it out.

Now it is ready to decorate. Get creative and do something the giftee will love. This one was for my mom. Happy Birthday Mom!! Now you need to reattach the lid using super glue. Apply the glue all around the lid and place it back on the can. Put something heavy, like a book, on top to keep it in place. After its dry its ready to go.

Here is the printable tag that I used. Feel free to use it for personal use.
